Since I’m on the subject of Rockford and music, I’d be remiss if I didn’t write anything about Cheap Trick, or as they are often referred to on the local classic rock radio, the home-town boys.
I often dream that, someday, Cheap Trick will roll through downtown Rockford on a flatbed truck, stop right in front of City Hall, and then proceed to rock through the entire At Budokan record at full volume. At which point, the city government will dissolve, and Cheap Trick will officially become mayor of Rockford.
Above are the front and back covers of Heaven Tonight, a graphic embrace of the beautiful dude/ugly dude divide that is so central to the band’s power.
