“…it became quite clear that Alan Ball has no idea what is truly horrifying about this world when the main character, Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress, stated casually that she makes ‘ten dollars an hour plus tips.’
“Now, I can buy the idea that nobody who works on this show has ever been a waitress, I can even buy the idea that nobody who works on this show is even related to a waitress— but I cannot believe that there weren’t multiple meetings pertaining to the production of this show that actually took place in restaraunts, where a waitress might have easily corrected this insane bit of dialogue. When we saw it, Roby declared that, intentional or not, it amounted to classist disinformation, and I can’t help but agree. Regardless, though, how am I supposed to feel concern or even sympathy for characters who live in the utopian wonderland where a dingy bar in rural Lousiana pays its waitresses 10$/hr+tips??”
