Adventures Close to Home

Terrifying Things2. The imagined appearance of Indiana Jones’ heart, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.So when I was a kid, I was very excited to watch Temple of Doom with my family.  At the time, I felt like I was partaking in grown-up entertainment.  As you may know, during the climactic scene, Mola Ram (pictured above) attempts to pull Indy’s heart out of his body.  And when this happened, I SWEAR TO GOD YOU COULD SEE INDY’S STILL-BEATING HEART RISING FROM HIS CHEST.  This sent me into a panic.  I remember running away from the television and crying.  So when I was 21, I revisited this pretty horrible movie.  I was bracing myself for the shot, totally prepared to defeat my childhood fears.  I kept waiting and waiting for it….and it never came.  As it turns out, there is no such shot in the movie.  Evidently, my young brain made the whole damn thing up.I also want to note here that my friend Jeff invented a dance called the Temple of Doom at some point in his past, but refuses to ever show it to anyone.
