Cardboard cutout advertising the film PumpkinheadIn the comments section of that AV Club article, a very astute person points out that, as a child, it could be a frightening experience to walk through a video store because you’d inevitably end up passing by tons of scary-looking video boxes.The Video Outlet in Rockford, Illinois, decided to top every other video place by putting up a huge movie-theater-style cardboard cutout advertising Pumpkinhead, special effects wizard Stan Winston’s directorial debut.  The cutout looked almost exactly like the above poster, and it scared the hell out of me.  Why would they put that in a video store?  That is a terrifying image for a young child!  Or for me, at any age!
Video Outlet later petrified me by showing The Dark Crystal on their in-store televisions.
